Overview

J. Angelo Design Build is a luxury remodeling and custom home builder serving South, Central, and West Austin, Texas. Since July 2024, they’ve been working with Builder Funnel to implement a consistent digital marketing strategy focused on attracting more qualified leads while also building long-term brand presence and momentum in a competitive market. We were honored to build their lasting brand presence and propel their business forward. Here's what happened.

The Challenge

As part of their ongoing digital marketing efforts, J. Angelo Design Build wanted to maximize the performance of their paid search campaigns. However, a few key challenges stood in the way, which prompted a shift in their overall Google Ads strategy: 

  • Inconsistent lead quality: Their existing Google Ads setup generated traffic, but it wasn’t translating into high-value remodeling leads their team needed to justify the investment. They needed better alignment between ad targeting and the caliber of projects they take on to help grow their business. 

    Tough competition in a luxury market: Advertising in Austin’s remodeling market came with high cost-per-clicks and strong competition. Without a more focused approach, their budget was being spread too thin. They were throwing money (on ads) into the wind. 

  • Evolving ad structure based on performance: The campaign initially focused on a general home remodeling ad group, which helped establish a baseline but limited their ability to target specific services and keywords related to their business goals. As performance data came in, it became clear that a more segmented approach would allow for stronger targeting and better budget control.

The Strategy

In October 2024, Builder Funnel adjusted J. Angelo’s Google Ads strategy to improve lead quality and campaign efficiency. The updates included: 

  • Increasing the daily ad budget from $64.50 to $80.63 to stay competitive in Austin’s high-cost search environment.
  • Restructuring the campaign into service-specific ad groups (e.g., additions, kitchens, bathrooms) to better align keywords and targeting with the services offered:
    • Ad Groups
      • Home Remodeling (Whole Home) Services
      • Home Additions Services
      • Kitchen Remodeling Services
      • Bathroom Remodeling Services
  • Assigning 4–5 carefully selected broad-match keywords to each ad group, centered around the core service and target service area, to maintain flexibility while ensuring relevance. This balance of flexibility and relevance packed the most power into each ad. 
  • Adding negative keywords and refining targeting minimizes unqualified traffic and reduces wasted spending, focusing only on high-intent search terms. Ongoing optimization played a key role in improving lead quality and maximizing the campaign's return. 
  • Driving all ad traffic to a custom landing page built specifically for paid search highlights J. Angelo Design Build's core remodeling services—including kitchens, bathrooms, additions, and whole-home remodels—and features clear CTAs and visuals designed to drive conversions. 

These changes all allowed the Builder Funnel team to monitor performance by service type, improve targeting precision, and better understand what generated qualified leads.

The Results

So, what were the results of these changes and tweaks? The most impactful outcome from this campaign was a closed-won home addition project valued at $500,000. This was J. Angelo Design Build’s first confirmed project directly attributed to Google Ads. The lead entered through the “Home Additions” ad group, converted via the dedicated landing page, and engaged with multiple Builder Funnel-created resources, including the cost guide, blog content, and portfolio page. From this single project alone, the campaign delivered the following:
